St. Joseph College and Sunway College Sign MOU
On 29th September 2017, Sunway College (KL) and St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous),
Bengaluru, India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim to
foster collaboration between the VU Undergraduate Programme and the School of
Commerce, St Joseph’s College (Autonomous). The signing of this MoU is an
important milestone in the history of the VU Undergraduate Programme.
The MoU
was signed by Mr Teo Ee Sing, Executive Director on behalf of Sunway Education
Group and Rev. Fr. Richard Stephan Rego, Director, International Collaboration
on behalf of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous). The MoU signing was witnessed
by Dr Elizabeth Lee, Senior Executive Director, Sunway Education Group, Dr
Christo Selvan, Dean, School of Commerce of St. Joseph’s College, Dr Hendry Ng,
Director of VU Postgraduate Programme, Ms Greeja De Silva, Director of VU
Undergraduate Programme as well as academic staff and students of VU
Undergraduate Programme.
The
objective of the MoU is to promote academic excellence and expand international
opportunities in education and research between the two educational
institutions. This collaboration is intended to cover three main areas namely,
to facilitate student exchange, academic staff exchange and collaborative
research projects between the two educational institutions.
The
move for collaboration and the signing of the MoU was initiated by Dr Benedict
Valentine Arulanandam, a Senior Lecturer of the VU Undergraduate Programme and
Dr Christo Selvan. Dr Elizabeth Lee, in her address to the gathering,
highlighted the common goals and values of both institutions which were to
provide quality education and higher education opportunities to deserving
students. She also touched on Sunway’s vision to nurture future accountants,
business professionals and entrepreneurs and provide them with an international
outlook and promote lifelong learning by seeking out strategic associations
with other international institutions of higher learning such as Oxford and Cambridge
University. Dr Rego, in his address greeted the gathering with a warm “Selamat
Petang” and proceeded to introduce St. Joseph’s College, highlighting their
many achievements and emphasis on character development of their students.
The MoU
signing ceremony kicked off with a sentimental medley song by two VU students,
Jonathan T Kuruvilla and David Frank Ahimaz and ended with a jaunty one-of-a
kind beatboxing expressing the history of Sunway College by VU student,
Jonathan San Weng-Hong.
